MOQ 5 pieces: how buyers mix models and fabrics in one order

Long modular curved sofa arrangement showing multiple seat configurations

Most of our upholstered models carry a minimum of five pieces. Chairs are the exception at one piece. Buyers often ask whether that means five identical sofas. It does not.

Where the number comes from

Two things set it. The first is fabric: mills sell by the roll, and a single sofa can leave a workshop holding a partial roll that is hard to use elsewhere. The second is line setup — cutting, sewing and upholstery are arranged per model, and a run of one costs almost as much to set up as a run of five.

Chairs sit at one piece because their panels are small and the offcuts remain usable.

What can be mixed inside one order

  • Models from the same family — a two-seater, a three-seater and a chaise that share frame details.
  • Configurations of one model — left-hand and right-hand versions, with or without ottoman.
  • Two or three fabrics — enough for a scheme without turning the order into separate runs.

What causes trouble is mixing many models across many fabrics: each combination becomes its own cutting and sewing sequence, and the schedule stretches.

Dye lots and colour

Fabric is dyed in batches. Two rolls from different batches can differ slightly, and the difference shows when pieces sit side by side in one room. If a project needs twelve pieces in one colour, order the fabric for all twelve at once, even if production is staged.

How mixing affects the schedule

A single-model run moves through the line in one pass. A mixed order moves in sequence: model A, then model B. The total lead time is set by the last item, not the first. If a project has a fixed opening date, tell us the date before the mix is agreed, not after.

Before you pay the deposit

Ask for a written breakdown: models, quantities, fabrics, unit price, packing method, and the loading plan for the container. If a supplier cannot say how many pieces fit, the packing has probably not been calculated yet.

Questions buyers ask

Can I order one piece to check quality?

Yes for most chairs. For sofas, a sample can be produced as a one-off, but it is priced as a sample rather than as production.

Can I add models after the order starts?

It depends on where production is. Adding before cutting is usually simple; adding after fabric is cut is a new run.

Do mixed orders cost more per piece?

They can, because setup repeats. Keeping to one fabric and two or three models keeps it close to a single-model price.
